Classic Chennai: The biggest Ever Event from a MSP!!!!!!We CNUGStudent are organizing an event called "Classic Chennai" (http://classicchennai.net). The event is an online one which would go for a month from March 15th to April 15th and is mainly aimed to make students realize the technology is fun and to motivate them. Through this we also intend to popularize the UG and its activities.

The event is divided into:

Blogging
Photography
Photosynth
Short Film
Documentary
Poster Design

Intro to Classic Chennai:

CLASSIC CHENNAI is a fiesta of month-long online competitions for students, organized by the combined efforts of the CNUG student Chapter and the Microsoft Student Partner (Chennai) community.

Theme of Classic Chennai

It is impossible, not to forget, unwise to classify or categorize something as vast and varied as the city of Chennai. It equally unfair to try to categorize the vast and varied talent pool that the students in Chennai are blessed with. Categorization imposes restrictions and Classic Chennai aims at breaking this very unwritten rule that competitions should pertain to some theme or the other. The crux of the competition is that there is no particular topic a participant should adhere to, in any of the events. Just make sure your entry revolves around what you think Classic Chennai is, in any aspect, and send us your entries. So what are you waiting for? Put on your thinking caps and start expanding your horizons! Let the spotlight turn on YOU and CHENNAI!

ACM ICPC Asia Regionals - Amrita University

This month starting was an awesome time...

I went to kerala to attend the ACM ICPC Regionals Onsite programming round.

I ll start first with the details about ACM ICPC:

Every year Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) conducts International Collegiate Programming Contest(ICPC) where the top 100 teams from all over the world compete at the finals. To select this 100 teams there are regionals all over the world. Since I was from Asia Region i was asked to participate in the regional which will be held in Asia.

So i chose The kerala site which is nearer to me. We went to the Amrita University for the onsite for which the selection was initially did by an online round. They shortlisted around 58 teams for the onsite round.

There were teams from all over India and other asian countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka etc....

The date of contest was 6th. But they said we can reach the site from 4th onwards. Due to the train availability we went to Kerala on 4th early morning 05:30 AM by Kochuvelli Express which was a special train.

All things in kerala was awesome. The most awesome was the Food we got and the Hospitality we had. so some how the day passed away. They had a practice session on 5th so that day was also some how went.

On 6th came the real terror. There were 9 problems which were very challengin. I ll skip saying about the bitter experience of competition. That day evening we had an Entertainment session after the Certificate distribution. It was awesome.

On 7th they arranged for an Excursion to ThenMala. The trip was really cool. Cool in the sense both the enjoyment as well as the weather. Altogether i nealy took photos and videos of 3GB in kerala.

Last but not least the departuring session. We had train at the midnight at 1:30 Guruvayur Express which is not a straight train. The next we woke up at 10:00 and had breakfast and the day passed by talking to the pasengers in the train...

We reached the destination by 9:00 PM and i came to home by 11:00 and it was totally Enjoyed trip with the onli defect of not winning the competiton..

How to present Paper Presentation @ College Symposiums : Version 2.0

hello frnds,

This post is the continuity of my previous post How to present Paper Presentation @ College Symposiums

i was really tired of reading lot of comments requesting me to update the paper presentation with new ideas and latest news....

Since for the audience request im updating with this blog....

So i said the general procedure to do the paper in my previous blog.....

Now i ll specifically take a topic and say u how to update it.....

So if u see the current research in the world it has moved towards NANO TECHNOLOGY.... There has been a lot of improvements and ongoing developments in this fiels since last decade...

Let it be electronics or computer science or mechanical everryone researches in nano.

So with as inspiration i ll explain u all how to do paper in nano technology. If u google the nano technology research u ll get most of the topics related to nano robots or other wise in short called as nanobots..

If u judge this to be ur topic then google wat is the general definitons of nanobots....

Hopefully the first result will be from wikipedia .. Read and understand wat it is... After u finish this go on google about the latest topics in it.

U ll find that they did this for curing cancer or some disease. so u create a paper for curing some other disease or find the application of it in anyother field.. This purely has to come from one's consecutive research and thinking of this topics....

For this u can search in the google patents link... i Hope u remeber wat is the link otherwise here it s:

http://www.google.com/patents

Once u get the spark wat u need to do is continuous research for atleast a week in this idea.

That is first thing wat u shud do is to collect all the related database and then filter it as important , references. Once u do this u ll get an idea about wat else to do.....

In this nanobots u get collect the important topics to be as how is it used in various fields and applications.

And references may be like the details of cancer and the current treatments in it....

Thats it u are now ready with the ground works. Now wat u need to do is sort ur result in IEEE format..

Finish it and surely u ll make mistakes in the first four times then try to correct and once u prepare the second paper u would hav mastered the paper presenataion and u can write a blog like me too :D .....

If u hav any doubts surely u can write the comment or blog me....

Programming

Hello friends,

I'm really sorry for not posting anything for past 2 months.... I was mentally busy with my studies and physically with my paper and project works.....

So i thought i wud come back with a new topic which im very passionate about......

Yes it is programming..... Programming means not just coding a program.... I'm interested in Algorithmic programming....

Initially it started for me when i was in the last month of my 11th standard (+1)... When i got selected for the regionals INOI (Indian National Olympiad for Informatics)....

It was conducted by IARCS ( Indian Association for Research in Computing Science )....

And out of suprise i got cleared it eventhough i didnt know anything of algorithms and time complexity....

I know wat were they as one of my school senior and my inspiration Prasanna gave me some ideas about Dynamic Programming and solving stratergies... Still i owe him my performance.

Lets come to the olympiad thing.. Its first round is a Zonal Informatics in Olympiad round where u get about 5 questions in various topics inside Algorithms & programming... And u wont beleive u get about 3 hours to solve it... Then think of the toughness of the problems......

The second round it INOI u get 2 problems to solve in the GNU compilers ( it is quite intresting to read abt GNU )...

After this around 30 students are called to the final training camp which will be held at TISB (The International School Bangalore)....

There you get training from various universities like CMI, IISc,... And every day a programming test section. Together all the marks are totalled and they are evaluated on the final to select 4 students who will be going to IOI ( International Olympiad in Informatics) ....

They are sponsored by SASKEN for travelling and etc.....

So nice of this contest no....

And i forgot to say this is onli for school students....

I ll come in the later blogs about the programming events for college students and professionals

Onstage Paper Presentation

I've already posted how to prepare a Paper for the paper presentation......

In this blog we will see how to present the paper on stage before the judges & audience and the way to impress them.

The first and foremost thing is that you should hav full knowledge about the paper you have prepared inclusive of the details away from the paper too....

Then prepare a PowerPoint Presentation (i.e.) a .ppt file having a gist of your paper...

The ppt is basically for the audience to know what you are talking about and at same time for yourself to know the order of what you gonna talk...

Never dump the whole thing in to the slide. If you gonna talk for 10 minutes the maximum slide should be from 8 to 10slides . And in each slide include onli the topics and the sub headings of the thing you are speaking at that time.

After preparing the slides synchronize it with the speech you are going to present.....

The judges will mainly look on the following things for judgin your presentation :

  1. Significance of the work in terms of innovation and originality of work
  2. Practical application emanating out of the work
  3. Display of team effort
  4. Creativity in overall presentation

The marks splitting for the presentation is

  1. Originality - 10 marks

  2. Clarity of topic - 10 marks

  3. Outside knowledge of the topic - 10 marks

  4. Answering to the queries - 20 marks

So the thing you concentrate on is that how much you compromise the judge in QUERIES...

And the most important thing you should note is that it is not Oratorical Competition i.e never give a speech, take it a lecture class and be cool enough to present the paper.....

All the best.....

Any more clarification leave a comment....
